garden
There is nothing like gardens to explain
the difference between the East and the West.
The western garden: lush, visible, surrounding the house
Gardens in the West, are often designed for walking (i.e. doing),
The Eastern garden: hidden, thus invisible, in the center of the house, protected. gardens of the East are intended
for rest & relaxation (i.e. Being).
The purpose of the classical western garden, as the one conceived for Louis XIV or for the Medici family, is to dominate the surrounding world, which explains the lines of perspective that lead to the horizon. It is a garden of Mastery. Unlike the classical western garden or the Japanese landscape-garden, that encourages the relaxation of thought, the Oriental invisible garden stimulates the contemplation of ones inner soul. But at the same time accepting and recognizing that all gardens are necessary for the enrichment of the world.
eEternal aesthetics are very important in the West, and one way to illustrate them is to design their gardens accordingly. In the East, however, gardens were walled off because the garden's interior was far more important than its external aesthetic appeal. One reason for the wall was to enclose tranquility, which was an intricate part of these gardens, and thereby separated the sacred from the outside world. These gardens were meant for private, inner contemplation and to be a retreat from the busy, hectic outside world.
Come, come whoever you are,
wanderer, fire worshipper, lover of leaving.
This is not a caravan of despair,
It does not matter that you have broken your vow
a thousand times, still come,
and yet again come."
-Rumi
The impulse comes to gather. The quality of how we are together, how we talk, this is our gift to the world, a breezy assembly of friends passing quickly through themselves into absence. We feel continously amazed by the company we keep and how it keeps changing. The purpose of every gathering is discovered: to recognize beauty and to love what is beautiful. Conversation rises out of every particle. It is all alive. We live within love, and yet we run away. We do not know why. This is no ordinary friendship. Come to the empty table, a cleared place where something new can happen. When you take the hand of someone you love, what do those hands become? Waterbirds rise from one lake to find another. What does it mean to give up the soul? A river in spring flood, and we are the sun, all those varieties on light. - Coleman Barks
The Inner Garden
is a place for people to gather
...to rediscover what they have forgotten.
There is one thing in this world which must never be forgotten. If you were to forget everything else, but did not forget that, then there would be no cause to worry; whereas if you performed and remembered and did not forget every single thing, but forget that one thing, then you would have done nothing whatsoever. It is just as if a king had sent you to the country to carry out a specified task. You go and perform a hundred other tasks; but if you have not performed that particular task on account of which you had gone to the country, it is as though you have performed nothing at all.
So woman/man has come in this world for a particular task, and that is her/his purpose; if she/he does not perform it, then she/he will have done nothing.
- Rumi

interview videos of Michael Thielmann by Stuart Knight from www.humandetour.com
This group will follow Eckhart Tolles recommendations that the group begin with ten to twenty minutes of silence 1 to 1 1/2 hours of an Eckhart Tolle audio or visual recording------->
ending with ten to twenty minutes of silence (silent meditation). It is best not to engage in discussion, as it tends to stimulate the mind and ego.
Eckhart’s profound yet simple teachings have already helped countless people throughout the world find inner peace and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of the teachings lies the transformation of consciousness, a spiritual awakening that he sees as the next step in human evolution.
Eckhart is a sought-after public speaker - teaches, travels extensively throughout the world.
In addition to The Power of Now & A New Earth, check out Stillness Speaks. a book designed for meditative reading.
every month on Wednesday - 7:00 - 9:30pm

Dear Friends,
In an age where the entire planet is connected by the click of a mouse, we are all neighbours. As we live a life of plenty, humanitarian catastrophe in West Africa unfolds. Consecutive years of drought, have resulted in imminent famine in Burkina Faso. Life there is a struggle in the best
of times, many communities are at risk of starvation. The people of Irim have appealed to us directly to support them in this time of great hardship. Thankfully, there is
a direct connection between Sufi community members of The Inner Garden and the village of Irim in Burkina Faso. We have people on the ground there who have the know-how and logistics to deal with the famine situation.
All that is needed is our financial contribution. We cannot feed the world, but we can certainly make a difference.
Please join us for an evening of insight, poetry, music
and sufi whirling, in support of a community in tribulation.
tickets are $25
a $50 donation can feed a family for one month.

SHEN: Sound Healing ENergy
The vision of Darren Hall, Integrated Health Practitioner and Sound Healer. Darren performs sound healing concerts using nine Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls whose mystical and beautiful tones emanate healing waves of sound which create harmony within and without us. Darren also adds his unique and powerful intuitive singing to create profound soundscapes that move the soul. His performances also entail a brief lecture on the healing power of sound along with conducting vocal exercises with his participants to stimulate and balance energy centres in the body, imparting to all methods to work with sound in their personal lives. Commonly, his performances end with the co-creation under his guidance of song circles where all come together in voice and sound to create oneness through musical expression. His visionary performances are both unique and inspiring & his vision of SHEN has expanded to include performances in accompaniment of yoga classes at Kula Yoga Annex and 889 Yoga studios in Toronto. He also has opened up for David Hickey from Crystal Journey & has upcoming workshops at the popular Downward Dog Yoga Studio.

All human beings are attempting to complete themselves with whatever they are trying to acquire: a family, a new girl friend, a new boyfriend, a career, a new car, a new home, vanity, more money, drugs and alcohol, overeating, too much television, gambling, a feeling, even spiritual enlightenment

Music is the miniature of the whole harmony of the universe,
for the harmony of the universe is music itself, and for man, being a miniature of the universe must show the same harmony. In his pulsation, in the beat of his heart, and in his vibration he shows rhythm and tone, harmonious or inharmonious chords. His health or illness, his joy or discomfort all show the music or lack of music in his life.”
- Hazrat Inayet Khan
